Greatest Work of Art 2.0
Medium : Recycle Used Empty Spray Cans
Year : 2024
Greatest Work of Art 2.0 is a double-sided installation created from approximately 1,500 used spray cans collected over ten years of mural painting. Each can, once a discarded tool, becomes a “pixel” in a larger portrait, transforming leftover material into a physical archive of the artist’s journey.
On one side, the work depicts Jay Chou, whose music and visual world — especially the album Greatest Work of Art and the earlier Ye Hui Mei — deeply influenced the artist. On the reverse, the portrait of his mother, Ye Hui Mei, honours the quiet, foundational role of the person behind the star. Together, they reflect a simple idea: for many of us, our greatest work of art is the person who raised us.
By using rough, industrial cans to form intimate faces, the work contrasts fame and family, polish and process, stage and backstage. Greatest Work of Art 2.0 becomes both tribute and self-portrait— linking idol, mother, and muralist through gratitude, legacy, and the unseen labour behind every “masterpiece.”
